Indonesia: Jakarta hit by a series of deadly attacks
Several bombs exploded in the Indonesian capital. The number of victims is uncertain, the local press speaks of six dead. The target: a neighborhood frequented by foreigners and Indonesian office workers.
“At least six people died in several explosions” and shootings that have affected this January 14, the center of the Indonesian capital, reports the Jakarta Globe.
Witnesses said the attack began around 50 10 am local time (5 am in France) with a first explosion near a Starbucks coffee from the American chain, not far from buildings housing several agencies of the UN and embassies. “Six successive explosions within ten minutes after” and firefights were heard before the busy Sarinah shopping center in central Jakarta.
Police, who secured the area, always looking more shooters. The ‘identity of the attackers remains unknown for the moment, but the Indonesian President, Joko Widodo, has immediately called these attacks of “terrorist acts”.
“The Starbucks located in a neighborhood frequented by foreigners and Indonesian office workers, n was probably the target of these attacks, which could be suicide attacks”, says the newspaper’s website.
