Chinese president emphasizes building the army through reforms
CHONGQING, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) – Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday called for strengthening the armed forces through reforms during his inspection of the troops in Chongqing municipality (southwest China).
Xi announced that the military should be guided by the objective of establishing a powerful army, implement relevant strategies taking into account the new context and to advance army building through strengthening political consciousness.
Xi, also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks Tuesday during the inspection of the 13th Group Army stationed in Chongqing.
The president also called for building a strong army through reforms and asked the military to respect the law and discipline during his meeting with officers and soldiers at the headquarters of the 13th Army Group.
The 13th group of the army has a remarkable military history dating back to 1930. The President has personally met soldiers who participated in the relief and reconstruction operations operations after the earthquake occurred in Wenchuan in 2008 and the one that touched Lushan in 2013.
When visiting the museum group, Xi urged the army to perpetuate their glorious traditions, and pass the “red gene” to ensure that the troops obey the commandments of the CCP.
