Cameroon: a watchdog committee to prevent an attack Kolofata
A suicide attack was narrowly averted on Sunday morning in the town of Kolofata, located near the front line, on the border with Nigeria. A young woman suicide bomber was spotted with an explosive charge she was about to turn in a market. Young, organized into vigilante group, has prevented this. The suicide bomber still managed to detonate his charge and died alone on the spot.
This Kolofata attack was foiled, do we relate, through the action of members of a local vigilance committee. The latter, having spotted the suicide bomber, the chased, leaving him no choice but to blow themselves up without making another victim herself.
This act of bravery is far from isolated. On 28 November, the courage of these men voluntarily committed to the fight against Boko Haram was unanimously welcomed by the government, after they prevented bloodshed in a bomb attack in the village of Waza.
Three members of a vigilance committee had lost their lives trying to neutralize suicide bombers. They were decorated posthumously. In the nation’s greeting message of the 31 December, Paul Biya hailed “the bravery and sacrifice of these new heroes of the fight againstterrorism.”
“They are extremely effective,” says Guibai Gatama, a journalist and North Cameroon, who also believes that they have become a “veritable bulwark” incursions and jihadists are a ”decisive support” the forces of defense and security in the fight against Islamist Boko Haram.
